Discussion 134 of 365; Eco Tourism- Lost Opportunities- Piping Plovers. The Piping Plover is many different things to many different people. The revival of these incredible (threatened species) birds has been taking place along shores of Georgian Bay, particularly in Wasaga Beach. The Province of Ontario and many local volunteers have been instrumental in protecting the delicate breeding grounds for the Plovers. I have spent hours in the past patrolling the shores, recording movement and activities of those choosing Wasaga Beach to lay their eggs. WHY has the municipal government not embraced this and looked at it as an opportunity? For the weeks that the shores need to be protected, why can’t the Municipality invest in viewing platforms, spotting scopes and staff the area with volunteer and paid guardians.
