Celebrating the destruction of Wasaga Beachfront

How sad that some of the Mayors biggest supporters are celebrating the destruction of our remaining Beachfront buildings (only those owned by the town). Like most things this Council does this “plan” is being pushed ahead with NO firm plans for what will replace what is removed.

It’s as though Council has asked their online support machine to flood the internet with blind support. Of course, there are all kinds of great questions, but they will ensure that their bizarre justifications are what gets focused on. In one case, someone even said it was good because the products sold down there were created in countries that didn’t have a living wage.

Wait! What?

How does eliminating the buildings these products are sold from improve the living wage in those countries? … like I said, bizarre ! Another person asked what plans there were to replace the destroyed bathrooms? No answer has EVER been provided to this concern.

As a community, we have not been told what firm plans are in place. There are two primary developments in that area. From 1st Street East, and from 1st Street West.

Everything west of first will become some version of a Private Property, Townhouse Complex with the elimination of second street (the actual street will become private property) in order to maximize profit for the developer.

Everything east of first will be some isolated, privately owned properties that continue to serve the tourists and locals. Those will be surrounded by fenced off construction zones that have NO FIRM, GUARANTEED re-development. Sure, there are grand promises, but nothing firm.

The Council will get their five (or so) roundabouts. They will increase our taxes into irreversibly high double digit increases and they will probably ensure they leave an area designated to set up our temporary stage for concerts. They will spend MILLIONS modifying our roads and building the infrastructure (water/sewer/electrical/ engineering) that MIGHT attract commercial development. (Might not)
I’m the first to admit that there may be some good plans down in that area, but we are not privy to anything except the promises. They have people excited that a waterfront hotel will be able to host weddings on the beach. They have people excited that there will be lots of ground floor retail. But NOWHERE, do we see ANY of that planning in the form of contracts.

We do see the elimination of HUNDREDS of parking spaces, in order to eliminate large crowds from easily congregating in the area and disturbing the new private property owners. That’s about it.

But hey, there are some concerts and parties planned by the secret arm of our Council to offset costs right?

Keep asking the questions. Eventually the answers will come out.
Party on and keep your secrets close Brian. 🧐🤨🤔😔
