It is generally true that lies do not beat truth. In other words, if something is a lie, it is not true and therefore cannot defeat the truth. This is because the truth is based on facts and reality, whereas a lie is a false statement that is intended to deceive or mislead. However, it is possible for a lie to be believed or accepted as truth for a period of time, especially if it is told by someone in a position of authority, in this particular example; say a candidate for Mayor, or if it is repeated frequently as in this example by the supporters of this candidate. This is why it is important to be careful about what we believe and to try to verify information before accepting it as true.
