No Beach Access

Signs Signs!

Everyone is talking about what the Mayor wants them to. (his new wage increase of 40%) However, I’m going a different direction as he will simply push all of his friends wage increases through with his own. It’s who they appear to be.

I will start to talk about the Beach One plan in more detail after I get time to review it.
But today, let’s talk; Beach access…. Boy is this ever going to become a hot topic in future, not just at beach one but all along our 14 km shoreline. As recently as last week someone commented about a “No Beach Access” sign at an access point for our longest freshwater beach. (Somewhere near 14th or 16th street?).

Last fall, at the end of the season, someone who questioned the Town putting signs out in the Allenwood Beach area also posted questions about “why” the town was (is?) getting involved in restricting beach access.

In these two specific cases, it may be in order to help redirect people to more easily accessible points. Let’s hope it’s not favours for friends of current decision makers to control access to their personal waterfront properties.

There are new growing disputes from people who claim others should not walk along the water’s edge or use the beach in front of their personal properties.

This problem will NOT go away! In fact, I hope some questioned access issues at this weeks big reveal of the FRAM developments. The last time FRAM proposed a townhouse condo project at Beach Two, it was going to occupy all of the land except the actual Provincial Park Strip along the shore. Looks like they simply moved that development 400 meters east. Wow… big change, same issues!

Back during the last attempt at selling our Beach Two properties to FRAM, a question was asked about people parking across the street on Mosley gaining access to the Beach through the new complex. The answer was that it would be left open for people to walk through. Hmmmm….. can we get that in writing? I doubt ANY HOA or condo corporation will allow Thousands of Tourists and locals to walk through their properties. It’s simply not a realistic expectation.

Seeing what is proposed down at Beach One and Two, there may be access and parking issues like we have never seen before. Many people voted for this Council based on campaign promises of having shovels in the ground. I worry that now that they are in power, they won’t care if those shovels erect “no trespassing” or “no beach access” signs.

One thing is for certain, even though actual “access” to the beach cannot be restricted, it is almost certain you will have to divert around all of the private property on your long walk to the beach. How many locations in Wasaga Beach from east to west will this become an issue?
