A New Town Hall!!!
Â
Had to step away for a day to help Sylvia⊠but then our Council dropped a bomb, so part two of the earlier Small Town theme will have to wait.
Why? Yes⊠absolutely everyone is talking about it. Brian and his followers are going to build us all a new Town Hall.
So, letâs address the âwhyâ factor. Well, the bottom line is Brian needs a legacy project. lol.
Our Town Hall is plenty big enough, but it is not in Brianâs ideal placement. Nope⊠he wants it on Main Street. Instead of the designs in the attached photos, I wonder if he can get a deal on just moving our existing town-hall building over a block? If itâs a new build, will it include a hospital Anex?
Guess what we will be told in some of the unscripted dialogue? âIt would be better there because it will all be part of a walkable places project.â It might even be heralded again as a treatment strategy for diabetes care.
Â
Iâm sorry. I guess we should take this seriously. So, my guess is that one of Andrew McNeills contacts needs another contract to prepare a report, or the Expressions of interest, or eventually the many studies it will all require.
EVERY study, every report is going to simply be a waste of Wasaga Beach taxpayers money. Some company (probably from Mississauga) will swoop in and present pretty pictures and all of a suddenâŠ. Downtown will be born! Iâm guessing there will be an arch along Main Street with an architectural drawing showing the new Town Hall framed in the Arch. Lining the street will be all of the new park benches approved last month and row after row of bike racks. This is ALL RIDICULOUS!
OhâŠ. More land will be purchased and a crackerjack negotiating team will boast of how much they saved us by avoiding expropriation proceedings. Then when a realistic Council is elected, silly plans will be cancelled and the towns archives will have additional parking.
Need more space Brian? Here is a modest but realistic plan. Move Bylaw into the old Library and then you can move HR into the Bylaw space. That space has its own entrance so it will be easier to get documents out without anyone seeing. I think you can dim the entrance by unscrewing a single light bulb.

I have frequent discussions with a wide variety of Municipal, County and Provincial politicians and staffers. Almost EVERY conversation these days starts with, âwhatâs going on with your Council?â
Wasaga Beach Council is rapidly becoming the laughing stock of Ontario. Oh⊠they are building a legacy, but sadly we will all pay the price.
I stopped reading the agenda when I got to that item. Does anyone know if Councilor Belangerâs request to get his money back from his Integrity Commisioner Sanctions is being dealt with this week? Canât wait to hear the silence of the âin camera sessionsâon that item.
Did I mention it is time to start paying attention and speak up?
