by the time anyone realizes what we are doing… it’ll be too late

On top of posting something regarding Wasaga Beach every day, I also read many of the other posts.
It’s hard to comprehend the sheer number of comments opposed to the Townhouse Complex now planned for Beach One property.

I do get it, that some say it’s good to see SOMETHING happening. However, I encourage everyone to go stand in one of the Stonebridge homes neighborhood streets, over by Walmart. Now look at the homes around you, check out the guest parking (great looking homes) and then head to the Beach.

Now, look around. Stand beside the Dard and look west. Now walk up to Mosley Street. Walk west past the beer store and LCBO. That road (2nd) will be eliminated to maximize profit for the developer. That road is not being eliminated to improve residents enjoyment. Now continue past the beer store to 3rd and turn right and walk to the Beach.

Pause for just a moment. Look back down the street towards the Dard.

Look up into the parking lot you just circled.

Imagine a nice summer weekend and all of the visitors parked there. None of them will park there next spring or ever again. How many parking spots do you see? They are ALL full on a nice weekend.

Now, look into that huge parking area and imagine the Town building a permanent bandshell and a building with proper public bathrooms. Maybe a rooftop viewing area like the one in Grand Bend where the Town could host weddings. That’s NOT happening.

Now… go back to that vision of the Townhouses you saw in Stonebridge. That entire block including 2nd street (yes the road) will all be condos. Sure they will tell you there will be ground floor retail in a few units, but no guarantee of what businesses will occupy those businesses. Maybe a few accountants or Lawyers?
When FRAM was going to do this to Beach Two in 2018, the public was enraged. From what I see, the public is again enraged and has every right to be.

The difference is that THIS council is cramming stuff through REGARDLESS of public input. They CERTAINLY don’t care about public opinion.

Now, pay attention over the next few months and the EMPHASIS of any statements or releases will focus on “public input”. lol why? Because many of the senior staffers in Town Hall and Council follow several FB groups hourly from work. Some say Council is shaped by Facebook posts.

It’s not lost on me that the Developer that only allowed the current Council members and one other candidate to put election signs on Stonebridge property is getting this incredible real estate deal. He will make MILLIONS!

Great, developers are supposed to make millions… but not on public land. I wonder if the terms will be cash up front or if they will trigger purchases of phase two only after they sell phase one and so on. That limits the risk for sure.

The sad reality is that it is too late to do anything about this (or any other deals they are secretly working on). If Brian Smith and his followers want it, they will get it done. (WE WILL PAY).

If you truly want to understand current Wasaga Beach Politics, watch the short video attached.
It is an 8 second clip that bears paying attention to.

What is happening at Beach One is deplorable! Nobody elected this Council on the platform of turning our public spaces into private property for the wealthy.

Once FRAM walked, Council should have started the entire process of public consultation over. Instead they chose a fast-track approach. What a shame.

If they want to blow our tax increases on everything east of 1st Street, fine. Attract a hotelier, open your old Main Street, try and attract your commercial community to build your stores and restaurants.
However, put your Condos up on Main, leave our public space at the beach public.

Turn Beach Two into a skating path and a year round concession stand.
Go ahead people, get angry, but “by the time anyone realizes what we are doing… it’ll be too late.
