Condos on the Beach
What it is really all about!
Brian Smith just nods and grins when developers say Beach One (and eventually Beach Two) will soon be a block of townhouses. FRAM has said that wooden townhouse styled structures will be first. FRAM also says this will not be a draw for families, but instead it will attract those who do not require mortgages.
So, pause for a moment and reflect on the Collingwood waterfront. Now superimpose those buildings onto property owned by the Town of Wasaga Beach.
But don’t take too long to reflect, our CAO and our Mayor as well as the developer have said they will move fast on this. In fact the Mayor has said that by the time people realize what is happening it will be too late.
It’s a sad day for those who operate tourism based businesses at the beach, as the lands that should be used for commercial/ retail purposes will be covered with condos. (With possible commercial on ground floor- no guarantees)
The funny part is that most of those who are falling in line and saying what a great job they are doing have no idea of the long term consequences. It does not matter to those in power. They will continue to plow ahead and the taxpayers will be told that the public was consulted.
They can’t even decide how many condos to admit to. Our CAO has reported 2000 to the Minister of Education and said although that is not the number, it doesn’t hurt to have them see growth. Yes, he said it publicly!
A few key people on our Council enjoy the hospitality of a developer in Italy and Wasaga Beach gets Condos.
Nothing wrong with that right?
