Costco???

I stand corrected: In discussion 159, I said the ā€œMayor denied any applications were on file from Costcoā€. Ok, so it was NOT the current Mayor. It was actually the current CAO. Today I reviewed the video. After appearing to discuss the direct question about a Costco with the Mayor (off mic.), the CAO Andrew McNeill Said….

(He sounded a little nervous)
ā€œNo application has been filed yet for a Costco. So… Um, as soon as we know. And as soon as we uhhh as uhhh… As soon as, or if a Costco application is filed we will share that with the community.ā€

But after all of the discussions going on in various Facebook groups, it seems the Mayor felt it necessary to quickly respond publicly with a statement. In part, here is what he said….

ā€œAn application for Pre-consultation has been submitted to the Town, and Town staff are working through the development approvals process with the applicant.ā€

Now it is important to point out, the ā€œlarge retailerā€ the Mayor says this statement applies to, may not be a Costco. He never said so in his statement. To me, it’s just strange that the current CAO says ā€œNo applications were on fileā€ and the Mayor says, ā€œAn application for pre-consultation has been submittedā€.

Oh well, they likely didn’t review the video prior to writing the comment. Probably just mixed up wording. 🄓 I’m sure they want to make it all about them when it does happen. It sounds more and more like it will happen. (Unless there is another ā€œlarge retailerā€ and surveyors and Costco employees are misinformed. )

I picked up a few things at Costco last night. Again, I engaged a Costco employee with the direct question about opening in Wasaga Beach. Her answer was that several of the Staff at Costco are looking forward to it opening because they live in Wasaga Beach and will transfer to that store.
FANTASTIC– I wonder how many jobs this translates into?

Frankly, it doesn’t matter who announces big decisions like this. The questions still remain;
Is it is good for Wasaga Beach?

Is it good for other businesses in Wasaga Beach? Will it cause a massive retail ripple effect in the West end? I know as consumers, many of us can’t wait. I also know as a business owner, it can have its ups and downs.

Time will tell.

Oh… the hot dog/ pop combo can also be a sausage/ pop combo… still $1.50.
