Discover a side of politics you may have never considered.
Want to know something?
When my wife was first elected into Municipal Office on 2014, there was a pretty fast learning curve. With her corporate experience, it was a daily straightforward task and she embraced her quest for information.
The Town of Wasaga Beach had organized all kinds of in house training. Every Department Head would present to the new Council, giving returning members an update while providing much needed orientation to new members.
There was no shortage of information to absorb. From Water Treatment to Zoning and Recreational operations and Fire Department planning… the list was endless.
Another incredible learning tool was the wonderful conferences put on every year by Municipal, Provincial and Federal Organizations.
I recall Sylvia spending full days going from one seminar or lecture to another taking it all in.
Through the eight years she served on Council, I discovered that even as a partner of an elected official, it was very interesting to learn all that I could.
Prior to her being on Council I recall actually reading legislation online. I remember being interested in the Municipal Act. But once I learned of the vast resources available to the public, my quest for knowledge continued.
One of the most diverse resources I found was the website for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
I have included the link. Anyone reading this post should take the time to at least open it and bookmark it for later reading.
I think if you follow the links, you will discover a side of politics you may have never considered.
Who knows, it may just motivate some of you to run for office in 2026.
The Ontario Website is another great resource.
I hope the links work… enjoy.
