Dog Days of Summer

“The Dog Days of Summer”There are all kinds of good explanations for this phrase. Sure they are the hottest days, but I was prompted to write about DOGS tonight because of our weekend away in Ottawa.
Normally, heading to our Nations Capital for a weekend would first mean a trip to the kennel to sign in our much loved canine family members.

But, now that we are a single dog family once again, we decided to take our Baxter with us.
It is all good news in relation to his time away. We found a pet friendly hotel right downtown. The staff were very pet friendly. He wandered through the Byward Market with us and we found a nice patio to lunch on. (He enjoyed his Tuna-lol) We even lucked out and captured a few photos of him on Parliament Hill during the evening fireworks display.

There appeared to be no shortage of amenities for those who have their dogs travelling with them. So, how about Wasaga Beach. Today… let’s talk DOGS in Town.

A few years after we moved to town our first puppy came into our lives. We will probably always have one or more for the rest of our lives.

According to Wasaga Beach by-laws, I believe two is the limit. But is that something that SHOULD be regulated by the towns rule makers? It would be interesting to hear how everyone feels about that.
What opportunities are there in town for our dogs to run free? Well we have two dog parks. One on Mosley Street by the Rec-Plex and the other is out by the Sports Park.

Are they big enough? Are they well maintained? Are their features you find in other Dog Parks that you would like to see here? Are two dog parks enough?

What about the Beach access in the Provincial Park, for the canine swimmers in our lives? A particular section of Beach Three is the only section where it’s legal to allow your dogs to swim.

Does the Town of Wasaga Beach have enough walking trails with adequate waste disposal options?

I thought this would be an interesting topic to at least consider. In Ottawa, there was an overall feeling that our pets were welcome. Do we have that feeling here? I just don’t know.

At the very least… share a photo of your dog enjoying something in Wasaga Beach. 🐶
