Golf courses in Wasaga Beach

Bold ideas? Yeh, I have some!
Way back in the 2014-18 term of office, a well prepared deputation / presentation was given to Council and they were asked to consider purchasing the Marlwood Golf Course and turning it into a Municipal Golf Course.
After watching the presentation, I remember thinking what a great idea it was. I believe the Mayor (Smith) thanked those who presented the information and said he would have staff prepare a report so Council could look into it further.
I don’t recall the report ever coming forward but a short time later, the Mayors friends purchased the golf course, so it was no longer a possibility. But wait… is it too late for another move towards a municipal golf course?
The Wasaga Sands (Now Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club) is currently attempting to get approvals to build 364 homes where many of the fairways once hosted many local and visiting golfers.
There are a couple of community groups heading up the opposition to this development, but what if the “Town” were to head up the resistance?
What would it take for the current owners to turn over the Golf Course to the Town of Wasaga Beach and allow the residents and visitors to Wasaga Beach to enjoy the lands as recreation space once again?
Maybe even a swap for current Town properties like the old arena property? Provide the developers with an easy alternative????
I know, hundreds of homeowners in the Wasaga Sands and surrounding neighborhoods would love an idea like this. Most purchased their properties knowing they would always have these fairways as a part of their neighborhood.
Perhaps THIS could be a location for the Towns first major, Modern hotel? Put it out near 45th street on current course property, re-design the holes, add a banquet hall and BOOM…. Now we are filling multiple needs. I’m guessing a shuttle to the casino could easily be procured!
So…. What would it take?
