High School discussions

Please don’t tire of High School discussions.

I stated in discussion 67 that people were welcome to ask me to raise any issue important to them if they were not comfortable speaking out. So today I was asked some important questions;

Does the Minister of Education (Hon Minister Lecce) know that the proposal for a Catholic High School beside the Town of Wasaga Beaches TPAL, is only meant to operate as the “proposed” school for a few years?

I thought it was an interesting question. It wouldn’t be the first time the Town of Wasaga Beach used deceit to influence a high school decision. I don’t think there is any way to review the proposals submitted by either board, but the fact that the Catholic Board Trustee will not answer questions is concerning.

So…. The Town of Wasaga Beach has said the new “hub” will accomodate 500 Elementsry and 500 Secondary Students. Then they say it will eventually convert over to 1000 Secondary School students.

So, the question is… does the Ministry know these particular plans?

I want to see a proper high school that will serve Wasaga Beach Students in the best way possible. I think most Wasaga Beach residents want that.
If the Catholic Board gets approval for a high school for 500 students, it will lead to severe under-enrollment at the Catholic High School in Collingwood. Sure, we get a “high school”, but the next step is bizarre. When would they think the enrollment would blossom to 1000 high school students? What is the projected enrollment that justifies this?
I really don’t want to believe the next question…. Would enough local high school aged children request transfer to the Catholic Board to bolster the transfer of tax dollars being designated to the board? Would this all be part of a bigger plan to redirect these funds? Let’s hope not!

I pray that none of this bizarre numbers game has a negative impact on the other fantastic proposal for a Full STEM high school that was submitted by the public board.
It’s not to be forgotten that several weeks ago I shared that a senior government official told me he had heard, “Wasaga Beach won’t get anything until they get their sh@t together.”

Shame on anyone involved if any deceit has been used.
Double shame if it costs us a high school!
