I saw Santa!
So this weekend I bumped into Santa and learned that its more than a suit and a Ho Ho Ho!
Santa in this case must remain nameless or by his stage name: Saint Nick. he was entertaining kids at the library, reading stories and generally prizing their Christmas desires out for waiting mummies.
My brief meeting with Santa however gave me an insight into the demands of this vocation; the heavy red suit, the stifling beard and wig with a hat throw on top. an outfit better suited to climbing a pitched roof in winter than sitting in an overheated library. Apparently the better financed versions of Saint Nick have ice packs. this however didn’t slow the cheerful old elf down as he waived to passing traffic. Such is the power of the season that few passing cars could resist leaning on the horn in greeting.
There is indeed something magical about the role, maybe its the anonymity, but those who don the scarlet robe don more than just a suit, they become Santa. whether its in a mall, in a library or driving down River Road in full regalia, Santa brings a smile to all.
And Ho Ho Ho, have a Merry Christmas!
