Opaque Wasaga Corporations

So much to write about these days, but today, I will keep it short. I do however hope you will carefully consider the true ramifications of the following concerns. Please talk about this. Do it here on FB. Do it over your back yard fence. Do it at work. TALK ABOUT IT!

The Town of Wasaga Beach Council has shared its plans to create and facilitate two seperate Municipal Corporations. One is to oversee the development of our “Downtown” and Beach areas. The other is to organize and operate concerts and other entertainment events.

Now, bear in mind… we have a Council that claims to be the most open and transparent ever. So, ask yourself, where are we with these corporations? Who are the board members of these corporations? What are the articles of incorporation? How have the financial arrangements with the town been agreed upon?
Does the average Wasaga Beach citizen have ANY oversight in these corporations?

Recently, another Corporation we own (Geosands/WDI) had a powerful shareholder direction passed by our Council, allowing them to increase a spending limit from $100,000 to 1,000,000 and allow them to replace the CEO without coming to Council (the shareholder).

So, WHAT guidelines and directives are the two NEW corporations operating under?

In a recent meeting, there was mention of a letter of intent with a hotel chain. Where is that letter? Prior to the new operating procedures, the Letter of Intent with FRAM back in 2014-18 was made public when it was voted on in open Council. It was attached to an agenda, voted on publicly and discussed by tax-payers. Will we still have this ability or will corporate policy of the new shell companies protect that information?

We can’t say anything is happening that is wrong, because we simply do not know. The entire setup of these corporations has been top secret. Has either of them even started?

I’m told a senior staff member recently left his employment with the Town. Has that person been given a CEO position at one of the Corps.? So many questions!

We were told in a power point presentation that four positions at the Entertainment Corporation would require $427,000.00 of the $500,000.00 loan the Town was making to the corporation to cover the top four employees wages.

So with numbers like this… doesn’t the public have a right to full, open and timely disclosure?

STOP! Think for just a moment about all of the spending and questionable decisions we DO know about. By creating these corporations, how many decisions are being made that we apparently have no right knowing about?

Can the old arena be sold through a separate corporation? Can agreements with ANY developer be handled now outside of the public eye?

I want answers to these many questions, but if it truly was the open, transparent government we were promised…. WE WOULD’T HAVE TO ASK!
(Yes Joe, the CAO’s are for emphasis.)

Talk about this important issue… everywhere!
