Fake ID’s

For years, I have attempted to address the use of Fake ID’s on Facebook. As more and more people are reading my daily discussions, the use of these fake ID’s to simply attack, are ramping up. Honestly, it would be an embarrassingly long list to display them here, so consider this…

Meta (FaceBook) sees nothing wrong with having a fake ID. Years ago, they insisted that you use your own name, but that has changed. There are some valid reasons people may need to use an alternate identity.
Here is the most important factor in considering these identities and the words they type… If they resort to rude, inappropriate comments and simply attack the authors of differing opinions, then why are they hiding? Is it because they are themselves a public figure and can’t be seen to be that rude? Is it because they know that their family and friends would be offended by association, so they sling their insults from the basement computer? Is it because they simply want to spread lies and misinformation and don’t want to be held accountable in court… especially the court of public opinion?

Simply disregard them! I don’t care what side of a debate these identities fall on, if they are simply being rude… disregard them. Don’t necessarily block them (although that option will provide some peace) but instead, recognize that they are hiding behind that ID for a reason.

Elections are won and lost because of lies spread on Social Media. Not just here in Wasaga Beach, but also around the world. So, if you are being given information of any kind, the first thing you should do is look at who is sharing that information.

The many issues that are important to tax-payers and community leaders everywhere, deserve open, honest discussion. It’s difficult to do that when so many fakes jump in and do nothing but attack. You KNOW the ID’s I am talking about. Question them publicly about their position of talking from behind the curtain.
The length of time that you recognize a fake identity should have no bearing on whether you trust their content. Some have successfully used the same fake identity for years. Just take two minutes to LOOK at who they claim to be.

Finally, be careful. Some of these fakes actually use photos of others (even models) to create an image they think you will like. Then they try to befriend you. Those people are just plain dangerous.

A name is just a name. So look at the content of someone’s character. If their words ring true and they seem to care about the issues, who cares what name they use. If however, they are simply rude, obnoxious and insulting… well, their reason for using that Fake ID might be a little more nefarious. Don’t be unduly influenced by these cowards.
