Pitchforks and Hatchets meeting

Wow, there are lots of comments and posts and discussions today about Wasaga Beach Council, particularly Mayor Smith.
It seems poop on the beach, sign bylaws, resident parking and the fire sales of critical property holdings were all tugging on poor Brian all at once. I guess if you give yourself a 40% raise though, you should expect increased public scrutiny.
I want to pile on one more issue and ask a very important question. The issue? A simple cup of coffee! The question? If it’s not important to Brian Smith, is it important to the Mayor of Wasaga Beach?

Our incredible Twin Pad arena/ Library opened right after he took office. He used it for great parties, concerts, celebrations and truly fun gatherings. Whatever Brian wants for those parties, Brian gets.
But…. What about the hockey moms? What about those visiting the library? What about those renting a room for a meeting? Can they even purchase a cup of coffee?
The arena was built with a concession area built in. All that had to happen was they had to accept some bids, negotiate terms and create an improved experience with a great local concession.
But today… the space remains empty. I suspect now that I raise the issue a temporary solution will be thrown together before winter. However, what happened to TIMS?
After winning an RFP, I believe terms of the contract were even made public, so where is Tim Hortons in the TPAL? If they are still coming, whats the delay. If they have walked away, where is the new RFP?
Bottom line… it’s not important to Brian Smith and Mayor Smith is to busy trying to prepare a big “private property” condo complex on the beach. He needs 20 Million of tax payers money before his developer friend will start his part.

Did they discuss this need for 20 Million dollars of tax seed money when the Mayor stayed at the developers hotel in Italy? When the “Wasaga Beach Resident” Brian Smith took the stage beside the developer at the Pitchforks and Hatchets meeting, did they talk about why the original townhouses at beach two cost him the election in 2018? I would guess they did. In fact, I would guess that the transfer of valuable tourism supporting property at our main beach to private, fenced of properties has been discussed many times. Why? It is important to Brian Smith.

So when will it become important for him (owner of Tim Hortons franchises himself) to make it possible for a local, dedicated hockey mom, to grab a simple cup of coffee and sit in the new stands to enjoy an early morning practice?

When will the important things start to matter?
