Questionable Items in the 2025 Draft Budget

There are some eye openers….

Shared facility- Theatre: Budget- $100,000.00

So, two issues with this. First, I thought we were told the shared facility with the new k-12 Catholic School was not going to cost us anything except maybe some speakers? Next… what exactly is the $100,000.00 for? Consulting? Seating? Sound? Not much for anything really.

I also note over $215,000.00 being budgeted to demolish Beach Area One. Lots of hidden expenses in this budget.

Probably one of the most intriguing sections is the CAO section. Wow! , yep… just WOW!

Review draft 1. It’s filled with questionable expenses. Comment on the budget. It is your right!!!

Check out the Walk In Clinic that shouldn’t be there in the first place. It shows a net revenue of $27,810.00. Pretty good right? Wrong! Look at the transfer from reserves line- $255,000.00 This clinic should be funded by the province of shut down!
Beachfront development: note, the EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS in design expenses, 7 mill of that in “contracts”. Really? Wow!
Wasaga Beach Sports and Entertainment- wait… I thought we were lending them half a million so they could incorporate and start paying their profits back to the Town. Now they are a budget item with $330,000.00 in employee expenses including a vehicle allowance. Vehicle allowance? Which is it? Are they a separate corporation or a budgeted department of Wasaga Beach?
Office of the CAO-Special Projects: Well, this is a pretty diverse set of expenses. One might assume these expenses are only for one of the CAO’s. It’s not really clear, but again a Vehicle Allowance? Memberships? $3200 in cell phone costs?
