Mayor refuses to admit Costco

Well I find myself wondering what possible surprises will be on this week’s upcoming Council Meeting.
Honestly, I have heard there will be some more incredible decisions, but let’s wait for the agenda to come out before we start to presume certain things.

What is it with our Mayor though, being offended by the citizens of Wasaga Beach discussing things like the new Costco.

As I walked in to Costco, the other day, I simply showed my card and walked past. The two men at the entrance nodded and welcomed me and then continued with their conversation. They were discussing the size of the new Wasaga Beach Costco. It was great hearing that conversation as it further confirmed the impending arrival of Costco at Ramblewood and Lyons gate.

Now, I had heard from two separate sources that Costco employees had been instructed to avoid discussing the new location with customers ever since I first revealed it here.

Then, when I was paying for my products, I simply told the cashier that I looked forward to their arrival in Wasaga Beach. She chuckled and said… I quote, “we have been instructed not to talk about that location because the Mayor called Costco to complain that we had been discussing it.” She was not in any way worried but was shocked that our Mayor had called. I laughed and told her that he simply like to be the hero and was upset that others were releasing the information. I told her it was “His Town and he like to proclaim things from his throne. We both laughed.

So… I feel 99.999% certain that we will soon have a Costco right here in Wasaga Beach. There is still a chance Mayor Smith will make a big announcement and claim his success in brokering this deal. But bear in mind, this deal started to come together during the last term of office. In fact, the property it will be built on is one of the properties talked about in the Towns letter to the OPP a year or so ago. Hmmmm, will Brian remind everyone of this? lol

Now… on to the next big announcement the Mayor inadvertently made…
Based on Brian Smiths comments, it appears we are getting a 99 unit Affordable Housing complex in 2027. This announcement REALLY intriques me. Give me a hand with this one please. I cannot find a County of Simcoe mention of this project. Am I just not finding it? Did Brian speak out of turn? If we are in fact getting this, but it was discussed in-camera, then I would hope some member of County Council will address this leak.

Brian… make the official announcement or don’t mention it. Please don’t make Wasaga Beach residents guess!
