Smith selling Wasaga Beachfront to his Friend

Well today’s Council meeting was interesting… apparently. For the first time this year, I didn’t actually watch it. I’m sure hearing a lot though.

The big news for everyone today is Stonebridge apparently winning the RFP to develop Beach One. Lol…. OK, the comments I have read today are all over the map, so I won’t repeat them.

Here is what I will share though. The first thought I had was to recall the Pitchforks and Hatchets meeting. For those new to political discussions, that was a public meeting hosted by a group of people in 2019 after Brian Smith lost the last election. They had three guest speakers at the meeting. Brian Smith promised everyone he was done with politics. It was too hard on his family. He wiped his tears and then told everyone to grab their pitchforks and hatchets and keep the Lady who defeated him fighting for everything. Who else spoke? Frank Gianone from the FRAM group. He told everyone that only HE had the knowledge and the resources to develop our Main End. I believe he even boasted about how he would have had shovels in the ground. I know that was a favourite argument from his supporters, but where is he now? The final speaker I want to mention at this meeting was Marc Crowe from Stonebridge. Honestly, I can hardly recall what he had to say, but I do remember thinking how he seemed to worship Frank Giannone and indicated that he looked at him as a role model.

One day when I have time, I will go back and watch that meeting, because the three main players in all controversial behaviour surrounding our Main End development EACH had something important to say.

It will be interesting to measure those words from 2019 with their present actions.

Hang on tight… I figure we are spending between 10 and 20 MILLION dollars next year to help them pull off whatever the “plan” will be. When I say “we”, I am of course referring to EVERY taxpayer in Wasaga Beach.

I wonder if we will break records for voter turnout in the next election?
