Town Owned properties FOR SALE?
Town Owned properties FOR SALE?
Did you know? The Town has spent all kinds of money “studying” which Town Owned properties they want to put on the for sale list.
Several months ago, they went through a process to identify and “declare surplus” an interesting mix of properties. One they were considering, (where I think they deferred the decision) was the Dunkeron Street Municipal parking lot. It was going to be on the list of properties declared surplus, but it was saved from the chopping block because (for one reason) Councilor White used it on a regular basis.
When I saw that they were even considering selling that parking lot, I had all kinds of questions;
- Was Councils budgeting so tight that they needed to have a fire sale?
- Was there already an interested buyer and they simply had to follow due process?
- Was this Council (under the guidance of their CAO) so laser focused on immediate need, that they had completely abandoned planning for the future?
- Despite their claim that it was a poor preforming parking lot financially, could that be because of all the local people who park there free. After all- This Council was now known as the Free Parking Council.

I think back then there were some 80 rproperties being considered. What prompted me to write about this today was a simple browsing moment on the Towns Website. I often have to go to the Towns site to research things. (I am blocked from the Facebook page, probably out of fear that my comments may be critical).
Tonight, I was reminded how many rabbit holes existed on the Towns site. As I clicked away at the various pages I saw the link to the “Properties for sale” page. When clicking it, I discovered no listings.
I will go back on a regular basis and check this link. But my reason for suggesting you take time to simply wander around the Towns Site is that there are MANY interesting pages.
Do you have any of the Towns pages saved as a favourite?
What Town Page do you use more than any other?
Did you know every business could apply for a $2000 “Facade Improvement” program?
I actually have the Beach Cam
Link directly on my home screen.
How do you use the Town Website and what would you like to see added?

The town is spending money so fast that they are running on fumes. In order to around the kind of tax increases that such spending would naturally cause, they are selling off town assets. this includes all those nice little parcels of land for future parks and playgrounds. it also apparently includes valuable parking near the beachfront that currently brings the town income. This policy is leaving the town bankrupt since they are selling assets to pay for fixed costs like additional wages. what happens when there is nothing left to sell?
