“unexpected” increase in Police Costs?

Please, take the few minutes (20 at the most) to listen to the attached video. Our Mayor and his Council have decided to add specific out-takes to their You-Tube account. Yes, you could watch the whole meeting and see the same thing, but this new practice of highlighting specific segments is something they started to highlight bits they are particularly proud of.

This one is about the “unexpected” increase in Police Costs. Now, my personal opinion on this is that they probably should have just let it stay hidden in their 3 hour meeting. It clearly demonstrates a pompous attitude and the practice of simply being a blow-hard and trying to talk tough or trying to talk smart. What a failure on both parts.

First, let’s look at what our Mayor said about a specific “overtime” line in the report they are dealing with.

Mayor Smith said, “2000 hours is the équivalant of 5 full time police officers for a year. “

Ok… so, does he think each officer only works 400 hours a year? Come on Brian… maybe stop talking off the cuff and carefully prepare your statements.

Now, the tough talk… Mayor Smith wants to have the County look at replacing the OPP with a County Wide Police Service. OK, how does he think that will save anything. Boy, I bet the OPP are really intimidated by that threat.

Here’s the thing, sure he can talk for hours and try to sound relevant, but his story telling just doesn’t add up. He goes on about how under staffed our detachment is, but wait… is he asking them to cut costs or increase them?

This is one of the saddest displays of incompetence in a long time of all who speak during this clip. The Mayor even turned the chair over to Deputy Mayor Snell, then instructed her to recognize the CAO as the first speaker. It’s not your place Brian, you relinquished the chair. Were you worried things were going to go off script?

This Police Bill is going to cost taxpayers a permanent tax increase. One example Mayor Smith gives of how another Mayor was contemplating dealing with it was cancelling transit. Really Brian? You can make such a Bizarre quote but say you won’t mention which Mayor said it? Why not? What a silly idea!

Watch the video and think about the lectures he gave us about the war of 1812 during the recent Town Hall. I think he simply likes to hear himself speak so the others can take turns praising him.
