Wasaga Beach Magic bus

So Brian Smith took the bus to Queens park today, or at least that is the image they want us to retain.
The Towns Facebook Page has some posts covering the big trip. One is the Mayor and others meeting with Brian Saunderson, our MPP. The other is a promotional video for the bus shot before the trip.

A few things of note: This transportation to their meeting apparently also had sponsorship they felt was worthy of mention. The most obvious was “Blu Wave Board Company”. It looks like they even had a new sponsorship decal. But the Town also said they were proud to be taking Wasaga Beach Brewing Company and Mr. Norms Nephew with them.

Now, let’s look at the purpose of today’s jaunt with Mayor Smith. Although details are sketchy, we are all led to believe this was a trip to advocate the Municipality taking over the Provincial Parks from the Provinces portfolio.

So… our Mayor thinks that Beer and Yogurt are what it takes to sweeten the deal? Honestly people, I have said it before and it bears repeating… “I don’t make this stuff up”😂

Geez, Brian if you’re going to take gifts to impress, at least procure some award winning butter tarts, or maybe take a Beach one Icon like Pedro’s along, with t-shirts or towels for everyone. 😎😋

Ok… all joking aside, this is a very serious issue! Brian Smith can’t even close a deal with a developer he had worked alongside for 10 years or so. What possible strategy to operate our Provincial Park, could he have possibly presented to whoever met with him at Queens Park. Why the bus? Were they going to meet in the parking lot?

When we look at the photo of Mayor Brian Smith with MPP Saunderson, it appears that Premier Ford couldn’t make it. (Who knows, more photos may follow.)

Note: The earlier message on the Towns Facebook Page, showing the bus clearly tags “FordNation” leading us to believe this was an important meeting!

What did this field trip cost Wasaga Beach taxpayers and what was accomplished? The sheer secrecy that these “takeover” talks are shrouded in, should worry everyone.

Observation/ Question… whatever you want to call it. Did Mayor Smith think that one week after Premier Ford scolded him publicly for his second massive pay increase, that he would be meeting him with open arms?

This is embarrassing for the town of Wasaga Beach. The last time, I recall Mayor Smith taking a bus to Toronto on a publicity stunt, it was one of our early Transit busses, along with the Wasaga Beach Beer RV that went to Hard Rock Cafe. I think with that trip, we even got a special custom song bought and paid for with tax money. Of course it had to be edited shortly after its release. I don’t recall why.

Mayor Smith, this message is directed to you (I know you read my posts daily- your own people confirm it):
-Stop wasting tax dollars! The people of Wasaga beach do not want you to continue spending on this idea of the Province changing the Management and Ownership of the Provincial Parks! Sure, we would all like the Province to budget a lot more to spruce up our Parks, but that’s achievable through other means.

  • Stop the publicity stunts. They are unnecessary and embarrassing!
  • Stop wasting valuable time! You got yourself elected by saying you would build us a downtown. I disagree with your ambition, but… get to it.
  • Instead of field trips, get to work on the budget and TRY to reverse some of the damage you have done to our tax bills.

Maybe… just maybe if you actually lived in Wasaga Beach you would focus on what’s important to the residents of this great town. We do not want Condos on the Beach! We do not want half of “beach one” fenced off for hotel guests! We do not want $20,000.00 wraps on our busses because you think they look cool! (The $20,000 could have been better spent, extending a bus route)

While you are reading this Mr.Mayor, I would like to ask publicly for two specific financial reports. First, tax payers would love to actually see a complete financial breakdown (profit/ loss) of all concerts you claim have been so profitable.

Then, because you and your entire Council continue to criticize the cost of building the TPAL, could you provide a COMPLETE accounting to date of all expenses related to design and build and furnishings at the old library? I understand it is the location of many new offices. Are both CAO’s over there, or just one? Do you have a CAO in each Town Hall Facility? Maybe pay for another of your fancy promotional videos to show off the changes to the Town Hall and the new offices and furnishings in the “ANEX”. (It’s as good a title as any and didn’t cost a penny.)

Tonight there is so much to write about, but I will close this off for now.

It’s late and most of us have leaves to rake tomorrow. 🍂🍁What interesting discussions are going to appear next week? Well, in order to keep everyone interested, how about…
– “No more bagging leaves at the side of the road in 2026!”🫣Really? No more loading up and stacking up those bags?😎 Could this be an election issue?????🍁🗳️🍂
