Wasaga Beach meetings postponed?
IMPORTANT EDITS:
- I copied the wrong date regarding the Town Hall meeting. It is on the 19th of September, not the 18th. There was an important oversight in their planning though. This is the same night as the Chamber of Commerce business awards. Or… WAS IT AN OVERSIGHT?
- In my list of what people might question at the meeting, I have added that the Kinnette Club has spent money creating storage at the old arena for their “Toys for Kids” program. They will have to rebuild elsewhere or CANCEL THE PROGRAM.
Yesterday we talked about fake identities. The vile way they influence most debates is astounding. It is also overwhelming for many to believe that they have been duped in the past by believing these were real people.
That’s the thing about fake ID’s participating in these discussions… they leave a feeling of doubt behind. One person I am told is real actually stole the images of a European model and built a back story that he WAS a model. Why? Who was he hoping to fool?
Speaking up is exactly what several people have recently said they are planning on doing. For too long, people have been worried about the online attacks. Way too many times I have heard people say that they planned on getting a building permit so didn’t want to risk speaking up. How sad is that?
But events of the past couple of weeks seem to have awakened many of those voices. People I have never met are reaching out. People who have CHOSEN to be silent have now been poked one time too many.
I suspect that in coming months, it will be harder for fake ID’s to intimidate their prey. I suspect that neighbours tired of being ignored will get together and start to pressure our Council to step up and start caring about the Residents of Wasaga Beach.
The closing/ summary of this discussion was planned to be a shout out about the upcoming “Town Hall” at the Rec-Plex. It seems however that our Mayor has had to postpone it. Planned for August 15, 2024, It has been postponed to September the 19th.
Please go and read the update. It clearly says that the reason for the delay is to “attract a wider audience”.
I may be just a little over sensitive with the Bylaw actions taken against us this week, but I detect a flaw in the towns position statement regarding this delay. Is the anti- council temperature to hot?

I guess the Town wants to ensure maximum attendance, but their timing doesn’t make sense. They realize there are MANY really important questions to be asked, so they have moved the meeting to a what seems like a less convenient time for everyone.
After all, those who live out of town year round will have returned to their homes in the GTA and surrounding areas. Because it is a work day, most will have to take time off to be here on time. Sure, those who live locally will be back into their daily routines. But wouldn’t you think that it would be easier for them to find time in August?
But why would the town not simply disclose any other reasons.
I mean there are many issues people may ask about during a “Town Hall”. Are they prepared to answer all questions considering the recent staffing issue many are taking about?
They have suggested that we ask about Road Projects, The new high school that they boast about and yes… Beach One Development plans.
But I’m hearing people want to ask about a wider variety of issues;
- They want to have more details of how the AMPs Program.
- They want to know exactly what the condo/ townhouse development covering 60% of Beach One tourism parking will look like?
- Will the Beach Road be eliminated in that section.
- What is the future of Beck Square?
- Are changes to the sign bylaw coming soon?
- Many want to know why Tax Payers are footing the bill for about 20 Million in Development preparation. (Developers should pay for development)
- Loads of people want to know why we are selling off important properties.
- Is it true we can’t afford the Beach One changes Council wants to do, UNLESS they sell off our assets?
- Who is buying the old arena?
- What will happen to the woodworking club that used the old arena property?
- What will happen to our growing PickleBall community that actually invested money
- Will the Kinnettes have to cancel the Toys for Kids program because they built storage for it at the old arena?
- I personally would like to know if there will be exact details that explain to everyone, how many parking spaces are being swallowed up by developers (hotel/ condos and opening Main Street) and what plans there are to replace those spaces?
- On that same topic, I hope to ask exactly how much parking revenue will be lost as a result of the opening of Main Street, the Condos and the Hotel. Then I would like to know the total economic spinoff loss, this will result in. (They used a multiplier per tourist when calculating how much money the community made during a recent concert.)
- Oh yeh, remember the hotel that said they only had three weeks to prepare their last drawing? How big of a piece of our properties are they purchasing and for what price? Is FRAM purchasing land? If so for how much?
What am I missing? Oh, never mind the main End….
- I suspect there will be people at the Town Hall interested in the Wasaga Sands Golf Course. They may want to know what our elected officials plan to do to help them retain their property values.
- There have recently been public meetings about other developments out at the West End. Many couldn’t stay for those meetings, so they may ask Councils position at the Town Hall.
- will the Town have a summary of this million Dollars Ford gave us to deal with Ontario parks?
- Will the Mayor answer questions if the lady he spoke about on TV wants to ask about poop tents?
So many questions….. I’m sure I have missed many. I’m sure they are ready with answers to all of these issues and don’t require any extra time to prepare!
What I have said to most who ask is that this is the perfect opportunity to spend time it’s your neighbours. Take the extra four weeks. PLAN TO BE THERE! BE PREPARED!
Talk about the bully factor and do NOT let Council supporters boo people or intimidate them at the back of the room. Fill the room with people who respect the process and want answers to the MANY valid questions already pressing for answers.
Imagine how many more questions may pop up in five weeks! There are plenty of meetings to launch the next big WOW moment. There have been enough of them these last two years.
See you on the 19th of September… if you are still in town.
