Wasaga Beach public consultation lies.

Remember the Town Hall meeting back in August? It was postponed until September 19 at 7PM. Do you remember why it was postponed?

That’s right… the Town wanted to provide more opportunity for community engagement. lol… So how have they advertised this?

So far I have seen some signs on the side of the road promoting the new day! But those signs are only going to be seen by those who are staying up at their summer home. Maybe that was the real hope? Reduce the size of the possible audience?

Regardless of the Towns true motives for changing the date, it is important for as many people as possible to show up. Have your questions prepared and don’t limit your enquiries to the few issues they say are okay.

THIS council has eliminated the public comment/question period from Council meetings. They hold so many meetings behind closed doors that it seems everything is a secret. So… this is your opportunity!

Has the town incorporated the entertainment corporation? If so, who is running the corporation?

Same questions for the Development Corporation!

What is the Town doing to protect public beach access paths? Or what specific properties are for sale?

Is the old Arena sold or committed? Why was there NO public input regarding this decision? Can it be reversed if it’s in play?

Has the County officially decided to build 99 more housing units on the Zoo Park Property?

Will Council change the sign bylaw to allow election signs on public property again?

Will Council consider cancelling all development plans that involve Condos or Townhouses?

What buildings are slated for demolition at Beach One? When were those decisions voted on? What are the “immediate” plans to replace those buildings?

What infrastructure is the town paying for that would normally be paid for by developers?

Is WDI or Geosands committing financial support to the infrastructure improvements at Beach One?

What recreation programs are going to be offered by the town at the new Wasaga Beach Public School?

What efforts has the Town made to attract hotels to the West End properties?

Why does the Town of Wasaga Beach have private property signs that appear to be protecting certain beach areas? Can we expect more of this practice at Beach One once the condos are built?

How many parking spaces are being forfeited for the proposed hotel and FRAM developments?

Is the town converting roads to private property?

Can the Town provide financial details about how much it will cost to re-open the Main Street pedestrian mall to vehicular traffic? Can they explain why they are doing this?

What will the future of traffic flow at Beach One be?

What are the plans for Beach area Two?

So many questions…. I would like to know the total cost of wages proposed in the next budget compared to the total wages budgeted in 2021.

Will it truly be an open forum or will it be restricted topics you can ask about?

Start adding to this list. I think one of the most important questions is, What will Mayor Smith do to ensure those who choose to ask tough questions are not met with jeering and booing?

The Smith support team will be there for certain. If those who question the actions of this Council do not show up, it will simply be another opportunity for your council to justify any future decisions by saying they gave everyone a chance to ask.
