Wasaga Party Corporation
Wasaga Party Corporation
Discussion Three Hundred, WOW!
That’s a lot of topics and certainly a lot of pecking away at the screen of my phone while I lay in bed. 65 more this year and then January 1 will see a launch of a special year two!
Recently, my discussion posts have perked a specific interest from the Council Online support people. It seems that several of them, in various groups are upset that I (and others) are referring to Council as the “PARTY COUNCIL”.
So, I am the first one to say so, if I have it wrong, but I don’t think I am. Please, in the comments, try and come up with a list of the many concerts that we the taxpayers have funded since the Party Council took office. Then compare with concerts (parties) funded by previous Councils. Those who plan these parties have done so with so much boasting and fanfare that they even feel the need to create a Party Corporation!
Okay… I know the official incorporating documents call it “Wasaga Beach Entertainment Corporation” or something like that, but what is it? It’s a party/ concert organizing company. lol (All seven members of Council form the Board of Directors.)
The ironic part of this is that the most vocal of opponents to this monicker being tagged onto Council are those who use fake ID’s to support Council decisions. What a mistake! If you want to be critical, at least use your real voice!
Funny enough, I see this Council as fitting into two specific meanings of “Party”.
They certainly behave like a political party with most members toeing the line when the whip is cracked. There is occasional stress from within the “Party” of seven (we will call it the Brian Party) but there is certainly much more unity as they pass most motions unanimously.
Then there is the “Doug and Bob, Party On” définition of Party. Yep… they fit that one really well. Concerts with beer sales at our Twin Pad Arena, Concerts big and Small at Beach One (again- beer sales) and most of these parties even have separate VIP party areas where only invited guests or those who pay a premium can party within those areas.
Hey… I’m not knocking having these cool events. What I think is out of line is that our taxes are paying for these parties. Since taking office, I have not seen a SINGLE complete financial report that is all inclusive of total costs so that we can see the true cost of these parties. I suspect they don’t want us to see the true numbers because I don’t think (after reviewing cheque registers) they have actually turned a profit once.

Now, I suspect the reason this renewed resistance to the use of the word “party” when mentioning our Council is because they are under a bit of heat right now due to their big (actually-massive) raises and the soon to be announced tax increases we will all be paying to fund these parties. Anyone looking at the Budget would wonder why we are facing such taxation when we were assured that our new parties would result in profit that could offset municipal costs.
Did anyone see realistic budget lines regarding “profits” to be paid to the Town from the new Entertainment Corporation? If they are really good at running these, maybe we can get a cut in taxes by next year? Anyhow… I’m sure the Concert Lineups will be announced soon and we will go into 2025 with all kinds of great parties planned for those who enjoy them.
Way to go Council (That’s the Brian Party)… Party On!
