Will we get a Beach front Hotel
Will we get a Beach front Hotel?
I hadn’t really asked the question because like most things started by Brian Smith, I expected it to simply cancel at the 11th hour. However, tonight I bumped into one of the Beach One vendors. He has been here for 25 years and tomorrow, he moves his stuff out. He doesn’t sound happy.
Now, that comment about that being such a great move on the part of Sunray surprised me. Why? Well, it indicated they would be developing more AFTER the hotel. But wait… the letter of intent was for a hotel right?
I get it, sometimes there are negotiations the public isn’t privy to. It’s possible they might be one respondent to the RFP. That would make the comments make sense.
It wouldn’t be the first time projects have moved forward without Council approval. Remember back in 2018 when the Bifolchi Council discovered a 30 Million Dollar Parking structure that was in the planning stages with no public (or Council) knowledge. The (then) CAO during the 2018 Council transition asked about moving it forward and the existing Council knew nothing about it.
So… what do you think? Will Sunray build us a hotel? Lately, a large number of people have sent me several comments or articles about Sunray and their hotel business. The CAO and Mayor boast about them operating 75 or 80 hotels (no time to check the number they used) but how many did THEY build from scratch?
Google “Sunray” and see the diversity of their hotel offerings. The big question remains, is Beach One going to provide enough profit potential to justify building a name brand hotel? Friends who have friends in the business say no. They need higher occupancy rates than Wasaga Beach offers.
I have even had documents sent to me inferring the principal of Sunray, Mr. Gupta might be the same Mr.Gupta implicated in some high level crypto currency case. This research has been shared by people who really have the best interests of Wasaga Beach in mind.
There is no shortage of interesting articles depending on who does the research. Include words like, “charged” or “implicated”, or “investigated”.
Those searches will certainly give you lots of deep reading.
But nowhere can any of us find an answer for that 25 year Wasaga Beach Business owner? Will they ever build that hotel? He has had to permanently close a 25 year business because of his eviction notice!
I’m guessing they will get the hotel built, but only if there is a great deal on the condo space West of it. From 1st to 3rd.
There wouldn’t be any secret deals happening… that would just be wrong!

(I moved it).
I have to mention. i’m hearing rumours that Sunray would never invest in a hotel here. if they build a hotel it will be owned by the Town of Wasaga Beach.
