Municipal Messaging Control.

If the Mayor and Council don’t like what you post, it’s simple… they remove your messages and block your access. It may be staff tapping the switches, but our Council is ultimately responsible.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms deals with Governments who limit expression of conflicting positions, but someone would have to make a complaint to make them change their behaviour.

Charterpedia – Section 2(b) – Freedom of expression
Section 2(b) is particularly interesting.

Some municipalities try to label people as spreading misinformation and use that to justify their blocking tax-payers on Social Media. But, governments should not be able to simply eliminate their opposition because they fear the opposing view.

I agree that violent or inappropriate posting should not be allowed, but limiting commenting because people don’t agree is cowardly.

One way to look good is to silence anyone who disagrees that your actions are in fact for the good of the community. Another method is to buy all external messaging.

Come on Wasaga Beach, stop blocking users on Facebook because you don’t like their opinions.
