Wasaga Beach one tenants eviction
Wasaga Beach one tenants eviction
If you have been waiting for something concrete before talking with your neighbours…. Start talking!
(Read to the end, or read the attachment to learn of the disposition of the old Wasaga Stars Arena.)
First of all, credit where credit is due…. Thank you Mother Nature! You ensured another free party was enjoyed by all. Great Saturday (despite the lower than expected numbers) and let’s hope for a Great Sunday now.
Now… An open letter to our Council members,
As I started my day today, I noticed a post and a couple of messages to me that shared information that;
Wasaga Beach, “Beach One” tenants (no idea how many) have received some sort of eviction or demolition notice.
I also understand anyone receiving these notices may have been told not to share them publicly. Please tell me THAT isn’t so! What possible good can come out of keeping such a definitive, permanent action secret?
In 2017/18, Mayor Smith lost all chances of re-election in part because of the planned townhouse complex at Beach Two. So this time around, the seven of you simply choose the same developer, move the development over to beach one, add a couple of carrots and assure us , “it’s all good?”
But… what is with the planned demolition of properties without sharing the final plans for the area?
I guess you are afraid the public will take steps to shut it down if they think you were going to demolish everything with only a “letter of intent” to replace it all with.
You are good at claiming to be open and transparent… why not share with the community ALL that you are planning at Beach One and Two…. Allow Questions and take on any criticism?
Start a new Facebook page dedicated to “Plans for Beach One” and let EVERYONE comment. Don’t be cowardly and block people who don’t agree with your “artist conceptions” of what you want them to think it will look like. Listen to true feedback!
I would like to know what the boundaries of the Beach One FRAM Condo Townhouse Complex are? Will there be public pathways THROUGH the properties as easements? Is the road north of the liquor store actually being converted to private property instead of a public roadway?
What total land area will the hotel require including its guest and visitor parking? What are the boundaries of that deal? Has any public request for expressions of interest gone out regarding a hotel deal? Have respondents been vetted financially?
I would like to know what infrastructure services are being upgraded. Are we getting new sewers, new water lines, new electrical, new roads? Are the lands being elevated to avoid the 20 year floods? Who is paying for any/all of these upgrades or additions?
Is FRAM?
Are WE?
Is a Hotel Operator?
Are other private land owners?
I would love to know what contracts are in place to ensure the limited retail and restaurant services that will be torn down, will be replaced in a timely manner. I mean with firm contracts, not just empty promises?
What steps are being taken to ensure that those property owners who remain (about 30%of the properties) will be able to continue running their businesses? If not, will our taxes be at risk for compensating them?
During your demolition, what bathroom and comfort facilities will be available to the tourists you boast of attracting? What bathrooms will be available for public use AFTER the area is coverred in Townhouses?
During the public information session revealing the pretty drawings, I heard it said that the Dard was safe… for now. What does that mean? Are you really planning to tear it down, save a bunch of old bricks and put them into whatever FRAM builds in its place?
You go on and on about how the main beach is our gem, yet it seems that by Christmas, the road may be closed off and much of what we see now will be fenced off construction.
Wait… is that true? Will you be closing off Beach Drive? The plans looked like those plans may be permanent with exception to “events”. Really? Please clarify!
What is first?
Closing the road?
Demolition of the Dard?
Demolition of the Bananas Block?
Demolition of the Copa building and the building next door?
Will ALL of Beach Drive be closed? If so… why??
What services will the TOWN be upgrading?
What services will the developer be upgrading?
WHAT ARE THE TOTAL COSTS OF THESE UPGRADES TO INFRASTRUCTURE? HAVE YOU IDENTIFIED NEEDS FIR ALL FUTURE PHASES IF DEVELOPMENT, OR… JUST WHAT YOU NEED TO GET PHASE ONE DONE?
WILL EXISTING CHLORINATION/ WATER SUPPLY INFRASTRUCTURE BE UPGRADED????
Will you really be opening the old pedestrian mall to become a road again? Seriously? AT WHAT COST? Will it be a one way street? Two way? Angled parking like Collingwood? Are you throwing in a roundabout?
People following know that our Mayor is a developer. It sounds to most like our council is scuttling a ship that is still seaworthy. What we really want to know is what measure are you taking to ensure that any Council that replaces you cannot try to correct the ship?
Will the next Council actually be stuck with a bunch of bulldozed properties and “letters of intent”that promise things MIGHT happen?
Will the next Council be stuck with contracts that the community would never have wanted, but you stuck them with?
Please show us where any of you campaigned on a Townhouse Complex occupying most of Beach One? Any of you!
I would close this by asking how our Council plans to pay for all of the changes that seem imminent? At one recent public meeting we did hear that Mosley Street West improvements may be delayed for 10 years BECAUSE of Beach One projects this next budget year. So… show us the numbers?
Actually, part of the answer on how to pay lies in Mondays “Special Meeting” agenda. It looks like you will be selling off properties that many previous Council’s have accumulated for future community use. Shame on you all. It seems, with ZERO community input, you have decided (mostly in camera apparently) that the “future use” is to be a fancy titled Reserve Fund. Sounds like a Council initiative Slush Fund to me, or maybe a way to conceal true budgetary pressures because of out of control spending?
Will we really be selling our prized assets just to raise money? Really? A well used municipal Parking lot on Dunkeron- SOLD? Even Councilor White said he uses that lot!
Oh… more Un-numbered secret lots on Dunkeron- Sold? What address?
Hmmmm…. Have you had discussions with any “developers” about the deals they may get on these properties and their potential uses? Are any of them going to be used as public parks?
Don’t make Wasaga Beach tax payers keep guessing what’s behind the curtain. Enough secrets….
Oh… for those following these discussions, you may have already read the agenda for the “Special Council Meeting Monday” It has a properties for sale report, which is bad enough.
But then comes an “Addendum”. That’s a bit added on… kind of an, “oh yeh” part. Mondays Addendum is their decision to sell off the old Wasaga Stars arena!
There sure is a lot happening all at once. Hey, if we throw a party, nobody will notice! Yeh, that will not work! We are noticing. Good party though. We all paid for it, so… “Your Welcome.”
Is the planned sale of the old Wasaga Stars arena property Secret enough? Oh, you will say… It’s on the agenda. It’s in the website. So, EVERYONE was aware right? Yeh…. Right!
Side Note: look on the cheque registers to see what you have spent to advertise and share the stuff you WANT people to pay attention to.
Party on Council, Party on!
There might even be a chance we know the buyers of some of these properties… if we have watched our Council meetings these last two years.
Signed,
Concerned citizen.
(So… the attached “addendum” is only the Wasaga Stars arena report. The other mass selling of Wasaga Beach properties is in the main agenda. Message me if you can’t find it. )
