Welcome to the Wasaga Chronicle.
A modern Chronicle of the Town of Wasaga Beach. This archive mainly contains Social Media posts that need to be remembered rather than lost in the chaff.
In Wasaga Beach the news and flow of information is entirely controlled by Mayor Brian Smith and is used to further his own personal agenda. His hand picked council and senior staff ensure his wishes overide the needs and representation of the whole community.

The sorry end of the Wasaga Downtown plan Here is sorry tale of mismanagement and waste on a colossal scale directly from the desk of the Mayor. Those of you who can remember his last term may well remember the Downtown Plan to turn Main Street and the beachfront into a massive brand new shopping centre with high end shops and extensive condo developments. Well, you may also remember our current CAO; Andrew McNeil saying that the lynchpin of this new development was the roundabout (designed by the world’s best roundabout designer) at 140 Main St. We absolutely NEEDED this land at 140 Main to make it happen. Remember the saga about its exponential rise in value in only a few years? What once was only a third of a million dollars became well over a million by the time it was settled and the town bought it. Well [...]

Wasaga Beach Discussion 311 of 365; Wasaga Council deliberatly opaque Municipal Election October 2026! Why keep reminding everyone about this? Well my reasons have never been a secret. I do not support most things our present Council is doing. I have dedicated much of my personal time this year to following their actions and commenting as I see fit. [...]

I watched the meeting of our Council for November 14, 2024. I turned it on while [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 309 of 365; McNeil rides the Magic bus Well I finally took some time to watch the Council meeting that took place yesterday. The first important thing that caught my attention was the update that CAO McNeil gave about their field trip to Queens Park. He boasted that they got some great FaceTime with key [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 308 of 365; Smith selling Wasaga Beachfront to his Friend Well today’s Council meeting was interesting… apparently. For the first time this year, I didn’t actually watch it. I’m sure hearing a lot though. The big news for everyone today is Stonebridge apparently winning the RFP to develop Beach One. Lol…. OK, the comments I [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 307 of 365; “In Camera” Some people complain that there is nothing to do in the winter months. I disagree! We have all kinds of great opportunities and we now have a casino as well. I wonder if the Casino could set up a wager system with residents taking an over/under or possibly selecting a time [...]

Shared facility- Theatre: Budget- $100,000.00 So, two issues with this. First, I thought we [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 305 of 365; Wasaga Council, November 14th 294 Pages. By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 303 of 365; THANK YOU What a great day! Sylvia had a table at the vendors market at the Silver Stick tournament today. It was in the Remax room of the Twin Pad Arena/ Library. I had the honour of helping her today and it was my first day truly experiencing the facility for more [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 31, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 302 of 365; Leaf pick up Whoops, I missed #302. I have a whole file of discussions that were abandoned simply because something more pressing happened to pop up. But the other day, I was out removing leaves from the corners of our property. What a chore this is for many Wasaga Beach residents. With [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 30, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 301 of 365; Wasaga Beach Magic bus So Brian Smith took the bus to Queens park today, or at least that is the image they want us to retain. The Towns Facebook Page has some posts covering the big trip. One is the Mayor and others meeting with Brian Saunderson, our MPP. The other is [...]

Recently, my discussion posts have [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 30, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 299 of 365; Golf courses in Wasaga Beach Bold ideas? Yeh, I have some! Way back in the 2014-18 term of office, a well prepared deputation / presentation was given to Council and they were asked to consider purchasing the Marlwood Golf Course and turning it into a Municipal Golf Course. After watching the presentation, I [...]

Ok… so we are closing the archives and there is no plan to display our important history and the heritage of Wasaga Beach. Why not re-open a proper “Museum” and capitalize on the tourism that Brian Smith and his flock claim is our only industry. In a [...]

There are days when you just look at what’s happening and say, is he really that brazen? Wasaga Beach Councilor Richard White has typed out a Social Media comment and accompanied it with a short reel, calling my wife [...]
By Mark WinegardenPublished On: December 6, 2024Wasaga Beach Discussion 292 of 365; Missed Targets Honestly, I never have to worry about content if Mayor Smith is going to speak at the meeting of his support group, the “WBRPA Inc.” It looks like their meeting at Marlwood was a little less attended than some of his previous speaking engagements. Honestly, I don’t know that I [...]

Honestly, it would be an embarrassingly long list to display them here, so consider [...]

There seems to be this ongoing attempt to have everyone watching forget where the ball is. Just when you think it is under one shell, Mayor Smith moves the shells. There are so [...]
